Whether you want to break out your fanciest hat or your cape and spandex, there will be an opportunity for both this week in San Diego with Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack and Comic Con hitting downtown! There are also plenty of other events from concerts, to night events in Balboa, to festivals that will keep you more than entertained this week!
Wednesday, July 19th
Del Mar Racing
12 pm, Del Mar Racetrack
The Del Mar Racetrack gates open this Wednesday at 11:30 am! gates will open daily up through September 4th, with the track closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Del Mar Club’s racing season will include concerts and other fun festivities! General admission is between $6 and $10.
Side Bar Industry Night
9 pm-2 am, Side Bar Nightclub
Head out to Side Bar Nightclub this Wednesday night for their industry night and Opening Day After Party. Anyone who shows their ticket from the Del Mar Races and/or is in attire from the races will receive hosted bar for 9 pm-11 pm! Sounds by DJ Scooter!
Thursday, July 20th
Nighttime Zoo
9 am-9 pm, San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo now has extended hours to 9 pm through September 4th so families can enjoy their annual “Nighttime Zoo.” There will be live music, special entertainment, and talks, as well as a puppet show at the end of the night! The Nighttime Zoo activities are included with paid admission or zoo memberships!
Liberty Public Farmers Market
2 pm-7 pm, Near Liberty Public Market at Liberty Station
Liberty Station’s new weekly farmers market is going to be every Thursday near Liberty Public Market, off Perry Road. The farmers market has over 60 vendors, from local produce growers and specialty food purveyors, to artisan gift merchants. In addition to all the vendors, there is live music from local musicians for you to enjoy while you walk around!

Balboa Park’s “Food Truck Friday” is returning this summer with more than a dozen food trucks at the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway every Friday evening through September 29th. There will also be live entertainment going on while you enjoy some of your favorite food truck eats!
Balboa Park After Dark
5 pm-8 pm, Balboa Park
“Balboa Park After Dark,” the late-night summer event, is making its triumphant return this Friday and runs through Labor Day Weekend! Every Friday during the summer, visitors will enjoy extended evening hours at eight museums in Balboa Park, usually until 8 pm. There will also be food trucks and fun entertainment throughout the park to give people a chance to stroll the landmark at a time they might not normally visit.

Feel like being an early bird this Saturday morning? Come out to the Del Mar racetrack for their DayBreak. You can get breakfast while watching the morning workouts at the track as well as get to converse with former jockey Jeff Bloom! Tickets are $10.

Little Italy Summer Film Festival

Stop by San Diego’s Little Italy Amici Park every Saturday night and enjoy a series of Italian films with English subtitles. Screenings start at 8 pm and the entry fee is a $5 donation.
