Earlier this April, GDM teamed up with TK Productions & DJhere for our first Autism Awareness Pub Crawl & after party! This entertaining and interactive Sunday event took place on 4/3 at various venues in the Gaslamp. The proceeds raised from pub crawl registration fees, donations and food/beverage specials at the venues went to San Diego nonprofit, Include Autism.
Include Autism is a local, San Diego nonprofit that is devoted to providing services that encourage community-wide autism inclusion. The organization takes a well rounded approach to giving Autism Spectrum Disorder [ASD] individuals the chance to thrive in society. Perhaps their most successful program has been Community Coaching. Community Coaching provides hands-on opportunities for youth with autism to flourish as active, included, and contributing members of the community.
The month of April has been designated as National Autism Awareness Month - the first National Autism Awareness Month was declared by the Autism Society in April 1970. The aim of this month is educate the public about autism, a complex mental condition and developmental disability, characterized by difficulties in the way a person communicates and interacts with other people.
